Biography

Dr. Michael Barth has been active in the protection of intellectual property rights since 2006 and has been a partner of the patent law firm Eder Schieschke & Partner mbB since 2018. He has been an authorized professional representative before the German Patent and Trademark Office since 2010 and before the European Patent Office since 2011. In addition, he is an authorized European Trademark and Design Attorney before the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

Practice as Attorney

Dr. Barth provides consulting services to nationally and internationally operating companies based in Germany and abroad in the entire field of intellectual property rights, particularly relating to patent and utility model law as well as trademark and design law.

His practice includes application and examination proceedings, (patent) opposition and nullity proceedings as well as (trademark) opposition and cancellation proceedings. His activities further include providing support in the enforcement of protective rights in infringement proceedings as well as strategically advising on developing and managing protective rights portfolios. Dr. Barth provides consulting services to clients with respect to concluding cooperation agreements and other contractual matters in the field of intellectual property rights.

Since 2018, Michael Barth has been a visiting lecturer for the basics of patent law at the University of Technology Chemnitz, Germany.

Technological Background and Career

From 1995 to 2001, Dr. Barth studied chemistry at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, Germany. Along with traditional areas of focus such as organic, inorganic and physical chemistry, other focal points of his studies were in the fields of biochemistry, pharmacology and toxicology. He wrote his diploma and doctoral dissertations in the field of transition metal-sugar-complexes at the Department of Bioinorganic and Complex Chemistry under Prof. Dr. Peter Klüfers.
